Which of my jobs has any use for Abyssea?

Hi guys!

I emigrated to NZ during a break from the game, and I'm planning to come back next month. My question is, which of my jobs should I prioritize in terms of being useful for Abyssea? Currently I have:

75 DRK
76 PLD
76 BLU
76 COR
80 SAM
80 SMN

Obviously alot of catching up to do (which strangely is what I find so appealing), but I'd like to get the job most useful up to the level cap so I can contribute to runs more effectively. My understanding so far is my former main SAM is pretty meh outside of Fudo, PLD isn't anywhere near as useful as it was for Dynamis, and DRK has some potential if I manage to get a hold of a twilight scythe. I suspect BLU will have a use somewhere being so versatile, and COR being a buff job must have some application. My SMN is pretty neglected, it was just a merit burning tool which I enjoy to play but haven't geared up effectively.

Thoughts?

Technically all of them. If you're going with a large group, you may be trying to proc weaknesses quickly by having multiple people try with different weapons. If not, I'd say the most useful of those would be BLU, since you may need to BLU spells to proc amber weakness.

Thanks for the heads up :) I imagine I'll be spending alot of time on BLU to learn the new spells, too.

BLU mostly, maybe SAM and SMN too. DRK is mostly forgotten and PLD is obsolete inside Abyssea (which is close to only thing people do any more). Haven't seen really any CORs inside abyssea, not much need for rolls with atmas I figure.

BLU, on top of being for triggering yellow weaknesses, can be a real power house with correct gear/spells/skills(both sides of the screen).

Sorry, didn't see the "Job suggestions for SE" at the top, figured this was just "Job suggestions", and saves me having to post the same topic in 6 separate forums. BLU definitely seems the way to go until I get a hold of an Emp. WS of some sort.

level warrior >_> its the best job in the game >_> (6k AOE damage KKNP), and most emp weaponskills arent all that good. its all about the critical hit WS's, which is Blade Hi, and Victory smite in terms of emperyan.

BLU flaw was mostly MP managment.
When you get enough refresh with atmas (up to 20 MP/tic from atma only) then you don't have much to worry about MP and added with the new spells, you're doing very good in the DD department.
SAM and DRK can still be ok, but BLU has teh advantage of being able to do all the basic lights alone.

PLD is obsolete, with the HP and MP you get, throw a WHM and a MNK/THF/NIN and you'll have a good tank/DD which can hold on most NMs (WHM cures are just huge).
PLD survival tools are no longuer needed, and lack DD skills to make up for they aformentioned jobs tanking.

COR, I haven't seen many, so I don't know, they can still be of use I guess, but maybe not as much as before.

SMN can do very good.
Put some damage taken- atma on (pets get atmas effect you put on yourself) and you'll have good pets holding some NMs.
Very useful on dangerous NMs (Death, Doom, En-Death, En-Doom, Break, etc...), if you pet dies you can always get a new one working just as much as before while a player will be weakened.

Make a good magical build on your BLU and do 5k AoE charged whiskers.

All jobs are fine in abyssea and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. If I had to pick the job that gets the short end of the stick it would be DRK because they have no critical WS on their primary weapon. Despite that, they're still valuable for triggering weakness on NMs.

i mean seriously, the ultimate abyssea jobs are very clear atm:

Warrior Master of the red procs (they can hit all but one red proc if theyre merited in great katanna, have the hardwood/lotus, and a few pieces of great katanna skill). not to mention the most retarded WS in the game: Fell cleave. 6k AOE damage KKNP.

Monk Master of retarded high HP pools (i can hit 9k HP with a pure HP build as a mithra with proper atmas)

Black mage: Master of stupid high nukes, azure light, and being able to proc the majority of the blue !! spells.

White mage: a properly geared and atma'd whm/sch/rdm is physically IMPOSSIBLE to run out of MP with, expecially if theyre one of those totaly pimp melee whms who can drop 1k mystic boons kknp >_>!

Blue mage: BLU has a smaller variety of procs for bosses, but can preform EVERY type of farming light effectively.

Thief: A good evasion thf/war or THF/MNK can tank the living crap out of anything in abyssea, not to mention stick TH10 pretty easily.

Generally I agree but you have to admit PLD is at least questionable.

Still arguably a flaw in that you need to designate an atma slot to Refresh, but when you get to the point where that starts being a noticeable problem you're pretty far beyond the point of worrying whether you're burly enough to handle X.
If you asked your mother, she'd tell you it's just a game.
