FFXI PbP: Chapter 2

Valkyr was back in his Mog House, and was half-delighted to see Kaiser XIII, Allouette and his moogle not there. They all must have been moved to Toraimarai Canal. Still, he looked through whatever now-deemed-ancient objects that he used to keep, and the list of all the letters he has sent in the past two years, rearranged neatly by date, despite already have being opened. The house was as clean as ever, but it was simply not home without the three other residents. He took out a small snack and went outside into the barren town. It was odd seeing most parts of the city unpopulated, and some bustling with many guards. At least the town would be protected. If anything, it was only the town and its beauty he admired and not the denizens. Just then, a powerful wave, made up of a mass of undead, had reached the Tarutaru's nostrils. His eyes widened. Were they really coming? He noted the wind was heading Windurst's way, but made up to the top of Timber Timbres to see Aeric there as well, and saw the incoming black cloud.

Micro watched from the side as Rosalyn called the shots and everyone busied themselves with something to do. The least she felt she could do was keep an eye on the Sand'Orian army. She pulled out a pearl from her pocket, and excused herself to a quiet corner.

"Hey Gramps," she whispered into the pearl, "How are things looking over there?"

"I'm still not fond of this sneaking around you would have me do, but if you must know, something isn't right at all around here," he replied, followed by a brief silence, and he continued, "The Temple Knights are still stationed to clean ups, but the Royal Knights...they haven't done a thing. At least not to my knowledge...but what's even more interesting is the orcs have been acting strange around here."

"Oh? How do you mean 'strange'?" she asked curiously.

"Well, they've been inching closer to the city walls with the lowly fodders, but nothing more. It's almost as if they're teasing us...or just trying to get beneath our skins. Or just plain distracting us."

"Just make sure you watch your back out there, but I think you ought to keep a closer eye on things within the city gat-"

She was interrupted with Aeric's calling. She pocketed the pearl, and rushed towards the Timber Timbres.

I walked through the empty streets of Windurst, and for a brief moment wondered if they had already been attacked. My fears were assuaged, however, as the Windurstians in the Waters district assured me that all civilians had been escorted into the Toraimarai Canal.
Waters itself was preparing for attack. As we had planned, there were plenty of cardians ready to defend us. In a way, part of me felt bad: The cardians did have some semblence of sentience in their programming. However, they were the only thing that, if killed, would not aid the zilart's plans. Here's hoping Windurst would still have an ample number of their guardians when the fighting was over.

As for my troops, for those who don't know, the gold musketeers are the most elite unit in the Bastokan army, second only to the president's own guard, the mythril musketeers. They're so skilled that they are picked for missions deep within foreign territory: Finding prospective mining locations to help the industry, as well as spying on our enemies. To that end, each member is a one-man army, capable of operating as an individual, but also capable of working together when the situation demands it. Given the highly chaotic nature of our mission, this fact made them prime candidates for aiding Windurst.
As I described earlier, there were five senior gold musketeers, myself included, and 15 junior musketeers, making 5 groups of 1 senior and 3 juniors. Two groups were situated on top of the Opistery, comprised mostly of black mages. The third group, my group, was the one in the most danger, as we were on the ground, shortly in front of the gate. I had two marksmen (rangers) and a white mage for support, and while I'd be assisting the cardians from a distance, I was prepared to rush in and help if the fomor started to break through. The fourth group was over at Ensasa's Catalysts, with a great number of barricades blocking the way. The fifth group was over by the tavern, with the bridges collapsed, using the natural barrier of the waterway. It was 15 yalms across, no fomor could jump that.

It was shortly after we all got into our places that Aeric noticed the fomor. I began focusing my thoughts inwards, gathering my chi. It'd take a while for me to do each attack, I envied my allies in a way.

Rosalyn rushed past the front line stationed at Odin's Gate. She barely noticed Urth and his Bastokan troops amongst the Cardians as she ran out in front and stopped about five yalms from the gate. She had a dirty shovel strapped to her back which she quickly pulled free and slammed it into the ground.

"I wasn't expecting them to attack this quickly," she growled as she dug a few feet into the ground. She eyeballed her work, guessing it was deep enough, then dropped a dark bead into the ground. She quickly covered the dirt back over it and pointed at the galka. "Whatever happens, make sure that stays in the ground."

Rosalyn strapped her shovel back in place and ran past the group once more and headed towards the Aurastery. As she approached the magic school she slowed her gait and stepped carefully onto the dirt ground. Sketched out on the ground was a large map of the northern portion of Windurst Waters. Volt'aire had drawn it in the dirt with expert precision before he left to join the adventurers holding out in the Horototo Ruins. Rosalyn had her set of Elemental Staves standing in the dirt spread out across the map in a circle. Her Dark Staff was situated on the map where she had just buried the Dark Bead moments before.

As she carefully stepped into the center of the circle she held out her hands to her sides and the two Grimoire appeared in the air. The books opened and the pages flipped through rapidly until they both came to certain pages. Rosalyn looked over the books carefully, then they slammed shut and disappeared. She knelt down in the circle and placed her hand against the ground. She had never worked a Strategem this large before, but she had been working on the Schema for some time now. Granted, it wasn't the best time to be testing it but tough situations called for drastic measures.

A magic symbol burned on the ground for a moment and then the symbol disappeared. She breathed heavily and carefully stepped out of the circle. She had her gobbie bag sitting nearby with some equipment inside that she quickly changed into. She replaced her Argute Loafers with Desert Boots and her bracers with Light Gauntlets after putting on an Ecphoria Ring on one hand and a Rajas Ring on the other. She replaced her Moldavite Earring with a Suppanomimi and her Insomnia Earring with a Minuet Earring. She traded her Argute Gown for her Scholar's Gown and slipped a light steel cuirass on over it. She looked strange in her light armor with the blue skirt peeking out underneath, but it was the best she could do without running back to collect her Mirage attire. Even if that was an option, she would need her Scholar skills to activate the Schema and Strategem.

She pulled her Rune Blade out of her pack, it was still strapped to her Potent Belt so she pulled it on awkwardly and took another heavy breath. She left her Argute Mortarboard on and tossed her shovel onto her gobbie bag before carefully returning back to the center of the circle. She stood there, waiting silently for the approaching army to break into the city limits.

"Alright, you son of a !@#$%&..." she said out loud, "...show me where you're hiding." She held out her hands, her Grimoires appearing at her will, and activated the Strategem.

Aeric needed a reaction. As he stood on the rooftops, with one leg perched on the ledge overlooking the large number of fomors cascading upon Windurst, he considered his options.

He could 'gasp' at their numbers but felt that it was a stretch towards cowardice, something he had no interest in. He considered being 'taken back' by their relentless assualt but concluded, instead, that the responce was a little too unproffesional for his company. Aeric was too weary to be 'shocked', too optimistic to be 'startled' and far too well dressed to be 'nervous'.

Resentfully, Aeric would have to be humored. It seemed the most appropriate reply in his arsenol for a clown like Joseph and his futile attempts at world domination.

Aeric looked around at the faces of his comrades, heroes from the four corners of Vana diel, united for her protection. The Red Mage suddenly found himself grinning, perhaps even genuinly amused...

Nonetheless, Aeric withdraws his weapons, now sheathed in flames and dives off the rooftop towards combat.

If he was going to have the highest body count, he was going to have to work fast and efficiently.

((♫♪Stand My Ground - Within Temptation))

Altrage awoke in his bed. He rubbed his head and his arms. His shirt and jacket were laying across the back of his desk chair. Already mended, but from which of the crew he didn't know. The pirate sat up and felt the ship swaying slightly. We will be reaching the Empire tomorrow morning at this rate. He thought to himself. He stood up and touched the tatoo on his back. Earlier it was red hot and pulsating but now it was cool to the touch. The Wrath of Fenrir had subsided and he knew that could pose to be problematic in the not so distant future. After dressing himself in his clothes he opened the door to hear laughter coming from the end of the hall.

It was coming from the kitchen. The steaks must have finished cooking and everyone was enjoying dinner. He silently walked to the entrance way and stood there with one hand on the doorway. Nanako caught a glance of his figure through the corner of her eye and turned to look at the Corsair. He still looked tired standing there, the crew noticed Nanako's glare and everyone grew silent and looked at him.

"So where is my steak, gents and ma'ams?" Altrage said with false energy. As Captain of the crew it was key for him to keep the morale up, at any costs. If he was to be shown as weak or tired he could lower the energy of the crew and potentially cause a harmful outcome for the lack there of. Hobb slid a chair up to the table next to him and Carlia made a plate for the captain.

"You sure are strong," Magnifico said after some silence scooping some mashed potatoes into his mouth, "Where did all that strength come from? I thought I had you beat for sure."

"Ah, I told you already," Altrage quipped, "I have the luck of the Corsair. That is all that is needed in order to win." Altrage took a look around the kitchen. He was surprised to see the Moogle present, although the offer was made to her to join them for dinner he doubted she would eat with the crew. She was sitting between Ttop and Macxero of all people.

"Bull !@#$%&," Magnifico said setting down his spoon and adjusted the sling over his other arm, "You have some secret you're not telling us. That strength was other worldly. Like as if Bahamut himself had crashed into me." There was a moment of silence, the entire group didn't utter a word, waiting for the pirate's reponse. Only two people had seen him use this power and one of them gave it to him, Hobb and Darka.

"You will have to tell them sometime," Hobb muttered under his breath to Altrage as he shoved a piece of steak in his mouth.

((♪♫ Memories - Within Temptation))

"I guess you're right," he replied setting down his utensils. He pushed his chair back and stood up to address the crew. Everyone's eyes fell on him as he prepared to speak. With everyone's attention he placed his palms on the table and leaned in slightly.

"No more bull !@#$%&," Altrage said with a straight face, "We've fared well on these seas and we should be arriving on the outskirts of the Empire in the morning. The plan is to infiltrate the Empire's Castle, but not with gold and riches in mind."

"If not for the riches then what for?" Maxcero said, "When you left the Dragoon Knights as a low ranking Dragoon myself I offered to follow you and become a pirate. You said we would become weathy beyond our wildest dreams. Yet the only thing we've done is make some deal with the Beastmen that only you really know all about!"

"Calm yourself, pirate," Altrage said coolly, "As some of you may have guessed my full name is Altrage d'Orgaulle, third son of King Destin and the riteful heir to the throne, yet that does not cause my mind at unease...To hush the adulterous scandel with my Mother the King, my father, said he would make me the top ranking Dragoon, but with that came the burden of traveling to foreign nations for peace and other various diplomatic relations. The Empire of Aht Urghan was no exclusion. So he sent me away to the very place we travel to with a White Mage by the name of Darka. There I would train and learn the ways of the Empire. Things like, how they became such a thriving nation and how they regulated their armies, after all they had been keeping three beastmen races at bay for centuries.

"None the less, over time Darka and I became close, lovers in fact. The only person whom I had truly loved. It was her task as well to study these people and soon she took up the art of Summoning mastering the art very quickly, even able to summon Diabolos himself on the very whim. She was always a quick learner when it came to the magicks as I was with combat. We both grew in strength and one day she approached me with a new kind of spell, not yet known to the world."

((I will stop the conversation there for Urth's sake so he can add some input with Mogwai if he wants, if not I will continue on; also I am providing links to the music, I think it supplements the pieces well so check it out if you haven't, they are just youtube links))

Postby RosalynSable on Fri Apr 17, 2009 8:39 pm

As Resha approached the line of Bastokan troops and Urthdigger, the air around them became arid and hot. It was liked the heat that surrounded her was burning the water from the air around them, threatening to dry them out as well. Resha stretched her arms to the sky, fire dancing along them until it blazed in a circle at her hands and extinguished itself, leaving her punching chakrams in her hands.

"I'm not letting anybody get the drop on me this time," she said to Urthdigger as she took up a fighting stance. Crouched the way she was the end of her long braided hair touched the ground. With that, the only thing left to do was wait until the Fomor forces invaded.

If everything went according to plan, they'd bottleneck in the small passage of the gate and become an easy target for quick magical strikes. Taking out as many as possible at that point would be key to victory. The hundred cardians stationed at the gate would all strike at once then take up frontal combat as needed.

The sound of the rushing army grew louder until it finally reached a fever pitch. They had reached the gate and were trying to knock down the barrier. The magic that was denying them access wavered, flickering as it lost power according to plan. A grueling ten minutes went by, and the ward finally fell. The Cardians did as instructed, waiting a full thirty seconds that seemed to stretch for eternity before piling in front of the gate and unleashing a powerful blast of magic of every element and type. The energy that they fired off consumed the empty space in the tunnel and launched out the other end. When the last of the flames and lightning died down there was silence.

The echo of footsteps broke the silence, and a single figure strode through Odin's Gate. The Cardians readied another volley of magic, but the single figure reached up his hand and a wave of static electricity that emenated from his body struck the Cardians still. As he came into view the heat around Resha grew heavier, threatening to burn the very ground she stood on.

"Rosalyn!" Resha shouted, hoping her linkpearl still worked. "He's here, do it now!" Resha unleashed her stored energy and tossed a sphere of concentrated flame at the figure. As the burning white sphere propeled towards the armored man, it drew in all the heat around it, growing in strength. It was so potent it left a trail of ice on the ground behind it.

The black armored man, held up his hand as the flame washed over him. When the conflagration died down the knight stood there as if nothing had happened. He unsheathed one of the longswords at his hip and pointed it at Resha. He was about to speak when darkness surrounded him and he vanished. There was silence for another minute more, then the Fomor began rushing through the gate.

---

Rosalyn stood on the edge of the circle, breathing heavily. Resha's cry barely came in through the linkpearl. Just like before, something was causing an interferance. She wasn't expecting for him to show up so quickly, and through the front door so to speak. His pride lead to his quick capture.

"Let me out!" the knight howled as he banged on an invisible wall that trapped him within the circle of staves.

"Not going to happen," Rosalyn spat as she caught her breath. "It's a Schema designed to trap elementals and avatars... and those who've combined their soul with the very elements themselves." Rosalyn grinned. "You're not getting out of there so long as nobody breaks the circle, Joseph."

Rosalyn turned to gather her belongings and assist in the fighting. "Damnit, Rosa, do you really think I'd do those things!?" Joseph's voice made Rosalyn stop in her tracks. She looked back in time to see him rip off his helmet and toss it across the circle where it slammed into the barrier and fell. He was himself. There were no shadows covering his face painting cruel smiles. His once vibrant eyes were dark with dispair as he stared at her. "Please... if you let me out now there will still be time to stop it..."

"Time to stop what?" Rosalyn found herself asking. She made slow faltering steps towards the barrier.

"The Zilart! He's playing you for a fool, Rosa!" Joseph slammed his fists against the barrier once more. "He was using one of those dolls of theirs to impersonate me before, one of those Mammets!"

Rosalyn stopped moving toward the circle. It was true, she had fought those dolls herself before and knew what they were capable of but... "Why are you here then, riding in on the coattails of that Fomor army?" Rosalyn asked, her voice harsh. She could hear the sounds of battle coming from the distance, feel the fury of the magic in the air.

"I blended myself in, it was the only way I could get into Windurst to talk to you. You've gotta believe me, Rosa..." He dropped to his knees, one hand still against the magical barrier. He hung his head and refused to look up.

Rosalyn couldn't help but step forward once more. It seemed plausible, it really did. The Zilartians were already known for their trickery and trying to run the world from behind the scenes. Could Volt'aire have been playing them for so long, and simply setting up the man she loved for the fall?

Rosalyn reached out and pressed her hand against Joseph's. "I trust you," she said as she breached the barrier and it fell.

"Fool." Joseph launched to his feet, pressing forward with his free hand. The resulting attack blew Rosalyn off of her feet and several yalms through the air. She would have kept going if she had not hit the wall of the Aurastery with a resounding crack. She slumped limply to the ground and looked up, her vision going black. Joseph stepped in front of her vision, shadows spreading over his face. "Your love will be the death of you all." He said as he drew one of his longswords. The world around him in Rosalyn's vision was fading to black quickly.

In her last moments of conciousness she thought she felt as though she were sitting in a pool of water inches deep. She thought she could feel the etches clawed into the wall behind her. And she thought she could see two large glowing eyes watching the scene from behind Joseph. Then it all faded to black.
To be forgotten is worse than death.

Aeric watches Rosalyn's body slam against the Aurastery.

He quickly slays the fomor before him and charges towards Joseph, now drawing his weapons, over Rosalyns body. Aeric skids to a halt between Joseph and his fallen comrade with his blades in a defensive cross, to protect her from harm.

Joseph swings his weapon at Aeric and it hits him like a Giga club. Each blow against Aeric's defense sounds like thunder hitting metal. The Red Mage does his best to stand his ground and deflect as many blows as possible.

C'mon guys, I need your help... If we work together we can cut him down now, once and for all!

OOC: Was Aeric Powerplaying just now?

Valkyr was heading to help the other musketeers and cardians when he noted a massive shift in power -- headed to the Aurastery. He quickly shifted and turned, then ran to the Aurastery to find Rosalyn and Joseph.

Valkyr was watching the conversation occur between Rosalyn and Joseph, and couldn't help but be amused. Still, he didn't expect Rosalyn to give in so easily. Still, he sought his soul for some aid.

What do you think?

I don't know. He's going to destroy humanity.

Is that such a good thing, I wonder.

We've seen many times how much failure all races have given Vana'diel.

Bah, I'd be more interested in him if he didn't just betray someone who loves him like that.

Still, it might be worthwhile to know his real goals.

He noted the arousing presence of the deadly creature in Rosalyn, but quickly strode beside Aeric and drew his weapons. He asked Joseph, "What is your real goal?"

((♪♫Forgiven - Within Temptation))

"...We both grew in strength and one day she approached me with a new kind of spell, not yet known to the world," Altrage told his companions, "It was the power to embue the body with the power of one of the avatars. With me she chose Fenrir, for what reasons I did not know. The power came in the form an ordinary tattoo, mine as you may have noticed is located on my right shoulder blade. I do know know if the location was important, but I trusted her with my heart so I let her perform the magick. That's when it happened...

"After she etched the magick on my body it took a turn for the worst. Fenrir the avatar of the moon appeared in front of me and Darka, he told me of this ancient magic used by the races of old and that his power was now mine to harness. And then he passed into my body as if a strong gust crashed into your body, I flew against the wall. Immediately guards ran in from the noise, afraid that their stronghold was under attack. Instead they found me lying on the ground and Darka kneeling over me. The Tattoo on my back was pulsating as the guards yelled at Darka, hounding her with questions. I could feel the powers of Fenrir rushing through my blood. From there everything was hazy, but I remember lifting one of the two guards and sent him flying into the corner pole of the bed, snapping his back in the process.

"The other guard summoned more guards and mages to restrain me and I fought back but the power, just as fast as it had came, left me. And that was the first time Fenrir's power was unleashed. As they cast numerous spells on me I saw them take Darka into custody binding her and carrying her like a brute out of the room. I awoke to find myself in a cell, my armor all tattered and bent from the battle, it seems like they just threw me into a dank room assuming that I would not be able to get out. But along my journeys I had come across the Seagull Pirate Crew and learned some of their tricks of the trade and I was quickly able to get out of the cell undetected.

"None the less I was able to find Darka, she was tied to a device and two puppetmaster scientists were conducting experiments on her. I rushed in but the drugs that had been injected in my body made me slugish. The Scientists summoned the guards and I was quickly subdued and was sent out to the Reef to become prey to the Lamia but as my luck would prevail I was rescued by the Pirate crew and trained under the captain until I came to meet you all and formed this crew of my own.

"For one day I swore to return and rescue Darka at whatever cost it took, even if it meant my life for hers. And if they had killed her, then all the of the Empire would pay by my hand, and by the power of Fenrir within me. The deal at the Summit with the Beastmen, it was a deal for them to unite as one once again, so this goal of my would become a reality. In turn for their cooperation I offered them a scroll, an ancient and quite sacred scroll, one that Gilgamesh's clan has held onto for many a generation, with the help of this Moogle's master I was able to get the scroll and promptly called the Summit with the Beastmen. I apollogize sincerely to you and your master for this treachery Mogwai, and for that you may hate me, many do already."

"So we've been pawns to your schemes the whole time?!" Macxero shouted slamming his hands down on the table as he stood up.

"Calm yourself boy," Altrage commanded with a glare that could cut the thickest Dark Steel, "and let me finish telling my tale." Macxero grudgingly sat back down in his chair and folded his arms. He muttered something under his breath but Altrage dismissed the remark and continued his story.

"Tomorrow morning, we should reach the White Gate and the Beastmen later that day. We will sneak into the stronghold and rescue Darka or avenge her death if that be the case. You are all free to choose your own destinies, I will not force you to accompany me on this mission, if you wish to remove yourself when we reach White Gate there shall be no penalty for doing so; but I will continue on and I will fight for my love once more. Hobb, I wish you to sing my sad song, if death shall have me to the Corsairs of the Seagull crew and all of the citizens of Vana'diel. Ttop, Magnifico, Sieu, and Macxero I want you to live on, as the strong arm of the crew, you four would become amazing leaders one day, hell if I could have it my way you would become fine rulers of a nation. Pacco, your genius is paralleled to none, use it; don't forget that talent. Nanako I would wish you to travel with Hobb and protect him, after all he is just a spoony bard. Snake and Alix, you two have much to learn, but continue to do and become strong to protect the ones you love and the world in which you live. Carlia with your aid and helping hand you have shown your true colors to dedication in your work, use that to your advantage and one day you might even have a Guild of your own.

"And finally Mogwai, you," He said lifted the trigger to the bombcore neck piece that was around her. He pushed the button with a grin on his face and watched the Moogle's eyes widen, but nothing happened, "I'm sorry that was cruel of me. The bombcore's never worked, it was a rouse to make the Beastmen feel at ease; and I apollogize again for making you have to deal with that." He nodded to Carlia who took off the neckpiece from the Moogle. Altrage crushed the trigger with his hand and the bits fell to the wooden planks below, slipping between the cracks and down into the hold below.

"Mogwai, you are free to do as you chose, you may accompany those that wish to aid me in my attempts or you may leave us in White Gate, you may try to stop me, but be warned if that be the case then I will not hestitate to stop to you in your tracks. By the morning the medicine that was given to you to restrict your abilities and magicks will fade and you will become as yourself again." There was a slight pause and Altrage sat down again. Hobb placed a hand on the Corsair's shoulder to comfort him the two exchanged a glance and Altrage nodded slightly.

"This may very well be the last dinner we, the Purgonorgo Pirate Crew, may have together, let's enjoy this moment," the pirate stated.

Everything seemed to be going smoothly... that is, until Rosalyn decided to be a fool and break the trap. I quickly launched off a blast of chi at the Zilart. I wasn't expecting it to do much, even charged up that much. But if I was lucky, it'd piss him off.

((Assume a full 12 boosts, should do a little under 1k damage))

----

The repairs took a while, but the mast seemed sturdy when all was done. At least it wouldn't be falling over anytime soon. Things passed more or less without incident after this point. A few people carrying on their business around the ship, while I stood by, more and more concerned that our captain was completely insane.

Dinner was served soon after, and my moods lifted at the sight of a fresh meal. I took a seat at the table next to the lookout I met earlier, expecting the others to say something about it, but if anyone had any reservations about a captive eating with them they didn't say anything. The steak was good, though I only had a little bit of rum, since I didn't want to repeat my earlier actions back at the tavern. It was enough to loosen my tongue however, and I was busy swapping stories and jokes with the rest of the crew. The conversations died down a little as the captain strode in. He'd recovered from earlier, and the conversation quickly turned to the fight. I flattened my ears disgruntedly, as this didn't sound like it would lead anywhere good.

And then... he revealed his plans, first telling his tale about himself and a white mage named Darka. I busied myself with my steak, feigning disinterest. She'd been experimenting with a new spell, and in the process pissed off the empire of Aht Urhgan. I gave him a quick glare when the story turned to my own role in it. He gave his goodbyes after, as if he expected everyone here to even respect him.
"And finally Mogwai, you." He pressed the button. For a second there, I was crossed between fear and the fury that he would try to kill my right then, in spite of what his crew had said about him. Nothing happened, and he explained the ruse. Great, now I was even more mad, partly for falling for it. I mean, who the hell believes an "astral signature"? I hardly noticed the necklace being removed.
"You are free to do as you choose. You may accompany those that wish to aid me in my attempts..." was all I needed to hear. My course of action was clear: I couldn't allow innocent people to die, so how could I aid this madman in his quest?
"Let's enjoy this moment."

I say there teasing my steak with a fork for a little bit, my concern obvious to anyone looking at me. I couldn't take it anymore. I slammed my fist down on the table and stood up on my seat... which probably wasn't that intimidating since I was still lower than everyone else.
"Am I the only one who notices this man is completely insane?" I don't know if that was the rum speaking, or if I was just that indignant. Probably both.
"He's asked the beastmen to march on a city, kupo. You know, the place people live in? I'm not a proud supporter of everything the empire does, kupo, but there are plenty of innocent people in that town, kupo! Those damned immortals can barely hold off one of the beastmen attacking, let alone seven, kupo. When the city is in flames, will you be able to look your love in the eyes and tell her what you did, kupo? You know damn well what I'm going to do, give me one reason why I should help you, kupo."
I didn't even mention my feelings about using the beastmen as tools. I understood that they had a tendency towards evil, but still... beastmen are people too. People are too quick to forget that moogles are beastmen too, we're just nice ones. Most of us anyway. Speaking of which, I thought back to my little speech... I probably said kupo a bit much, but I can't help it when my heart's beating this fast.
I stood there, just panting hard. My left paw was on top of my steak knife, and for a brief moment a thought crossed my mind... before being judged completely idiotic. Attacking him, in plain sight, in front of his crew, with no powers to my name save for a slightly dull knife? Until morning... and likely until I got off the ship, glaring at him was all I could do. Besides, I couldn't care less about him and Darka, I was only concerned about the beastmen attack.

OOC: I assumed there was a bit of a timeskip, and it would be natural for Valkyr to follow the trail of power the minute it sprang -- i'll still edit my post.

"I'm torn in what and how to percieve the Captain," Macxero managed to say in response to the Moogle's outcry.

"I understand his plight," Carlia replied, "After all each one of us has had something dear to us taken away, I suppose that is the call of the Pirate. Some could say we are a lost soul drifting to find the way to fix our past, some see us as brutes who just wish to plunder and pillage merchants ships and towns, and others see themselves as us. I will accompany Altrage in his mission in the morning without a doubt in my mind."

"Aye," Magnifico, Ttop, and Sieu said almost in unison.

"As his cousin and closest friend, I of course will have to travel along side him," Hobb remarked, "Though his methods be harsh, with me at his side he is bound to not take the worst case scenario."

"I made a promise, and I will keep it," was all Nanako said to the group. There was a moment of silence as everyone looked at the Captain who in turn looked down at his plate.

"Tell me Mogwai, if your master and more importantly friend, Urthdigger had been taken captive, would you just allow him to die? Would you sit back and do nothing as they tortured him to the brink of death and back?" he asked the Moogle, carefully cutting into his steak with his knife, "If you were placed in my boots and the only attempt to get the person who is the most important to you back, what would you do when all else fails? Could you honestly let that person die by your inactions?" There was a bit of silence before Altrage spoke again.

"You have before you, three choices ultimately Mogwai," the Corsair stated as he pulled two different scrolls from his pouch, "Choice one: You can take these scrolls, a scroll of instant warp, and the scroll which you have sought after, the Scroll of Utsusemi: San and leave to tell your companions of my plans. Choice two: You can accompany me and be like the Bard to try and keep collateral damage at a minimum. Or Choice three, you can leave the ship once we reach White Gate and try to stop me on your own. The third being the most foolhearty of the rest. Choose wisely and carefully because the wheel of time is weaving your threads of fate at this moment. What shall be your course? Shall you continue on with the "madman" or shall you run to Urthdigger and request his aid.

"Trust me, by no means have I truly allied myself with the Beastmen, and I don't think that the Empire will fall to them, mayhaps they though, and would that honestly be such a bad thing? Greed and Averice spew from its core, the filth and disgusting ways of that Nation need cleansing, would you not agree?"

There was silence as everyone awaited the response of the Moogle.
