Fishing fatigue and monster catches

Fishing fatigue and monster catches

Postby Totema1 on Sat Oct 31, 2009 5:02 pm

I've noticed that as my fishing fatigue rises, I start to catch a lot more monsters instead of actual fish (as well as rising "You didn't catch anything..." messages). Is there any known correlation between the two?

That sounds about right, the limit is 200 catches or so. I usually find the closer I reach fatigue I get more items/monster bites.

Interesting. And as a parenthetical question, lower fishing skill keeps your fatigue limit down as well, yes?

That I don't know. I do know that if you're a pretty low level (exp level, not fishing), like below level 20, fatigue will be terrible. It's some RMT measure SE put in or something.

Under lvl 20 you can only fish like 10 fishes before you're at your limit.

I usually see no fatigue until around 100 fishes on my main (about lvl 33-34 skill).
After that, I get more monster/item/nothing. On a bad moon, I could even get next to 10 nothing in a row (waiting for a moon change and coming back later solved this though).

As stated, if your character is under level 20 you'll have a much lower fishing cap - like 10 fish.

Other than that, fishing level should have no cap on the amount of fish you can catch. Stand in windy and catch moat carp all day on a level 1 fishing character, or a level 100 fishing character and you will fully fatigue right around 200 fish.

Supposedly, there was a modification done to the ebisu rod in the July patch that adjusted the fishing cap for characters that own an ebisu rod. However, I do not own an ebisu rod so I have never been able to verify this. Here's a discussion about it at titanictus.com:

Prior to the hard cap (200 fish limit) there was a soft cap in place, along the lines of once past a certain amount of time in the same zone your bite rate will decrease and you will get more items and monsters. I don't know if that cap was ever removed or not, it certainly seems to me that it is still there!

As a rule, I cast reraise when I start fishing, and when it wears, I zone out, zone back in, recast reraise and start again. This gives me a one hour timer for that "soft cap", and it does seem to work for me. I don't have any hard numbers, but on zoning back in I do seem to get a lot more bites than just before I zoned. As an additional benefit, I also have an insurance policy for those moments of inattention when I pull up a mob :)

Hmm, I usually notice less bite rate when I reach around 100 fishes.
But as I fish 100 fishes in about 1 hour, it may be the same problem ^^
I fish moat carp, they come rather fast, so maybe someone could check with fishing something else, if after 1 hour and less than 100 fishes the bite rate is going down or if it is after 100 fishes and more than an hour.

There are actually different stages of fishing fatigue. My fishing macro looks like this:

Code: Select all
/echo Initiating fishing.
/wait 2
/fish

After 100ish fishes I will start to get the message "you must wait longer blahblahblah". At that point I have reached the first stage of fatigue where the 2 seconds isn't long enough between casts anymore. That might be the same thing that you're experiencing.

Yeah, I was wondering wether it was the 100 fishes that I noticed, or if ta was tha 1 hour of fishing that Catrinm spoke of.
Are the 100 fish and 1 hour a coincidence, or are both fatigue inducing ?

I wasn't sure either that I had to wait more once I reach that first stage of fatigue (I noticed that stage, just wasn't sure on what was triggering it, though the 100 fishes seemed to be it).

When you hit that point, try zoning out and back in (I don't remember if logging out and back in counts or not), see if that makes a difference. I suspect that the soft cap is still in the game which, if it is, would account for this.

The problem with proving something like this is the amount of time involved in collecting the necessary data. 2-3 hours fishing would cover 2-4 in game days, which could affect results, as well as a change in the moon (over 5%) which could even move the moon into a new phase and this would affect results
