Drop-Frame lag

Postby Missingno on Sat Oct 24, 2009 6:14 pm

Hello Everyone!

I encountered a pretty special problem and so far couldn't find a solution, maybe you girls and guys can help me out.

As we all know, our beloved FFXI it based on 29.5something frames per second, caused by the ps2 limitations..blabla.. you prolly know what I mean.
I'm playing FFXI for pretty long already but only on Windows XP.
Lately I decided to change to Vista. Installed everything and it worked without a lot of trouble. Except one thing:
The 22.5th-something frame, also called drop-frame, lags. And since this one appears once every second, my FFXI now lags once every second.

I also tested FFXI on Windows 7 and get the lag there as well.
But nothing on Windows XP

So then I want to ask, if anyone may knows a trick to let that drop-frame lag disappear?

Thanks in advance!

Yup, tried that. But it didn't change anything. Always the same, with or without QoS enabled.
Still lags once every second, right when the dropframe appears.

Sorry, that was not me, that was my lil brother... I apologize for what he did..

Anyway, I still have the problem. My game lags once every second, right when the dropframe appears.

Nope, I run vista and have no issues. I can't think of anything specific that could cause that.

The PC version of the game is capped at 29.97 FPS because that's 1/2 the NTSC standard. It's not do to PS2 limitations. The PS2 has no such limitation. To say so is just wrong.

The issue you are experiancing could be caused by a lot of things. I haven't run the game under anything but XP for a while. Though when I did run it under Vista I did not experiance your issue. Do you know anything about diagnosticing your computer? Maybe you should just use the PS2 version.
FFXI is more comparable to sex, it may hurt at the beginning but by the end you're having a BLAST!

Okay.. sorry bout that... I actually meant the NTSC standard and wrote the wrong thing. Sorry... But to be honest, I never saw a PS2 game with more then the said 29.97 FPS...

My Computer is perfectly right. I now have two harddrives in it, one with XP and one with Win7. Both fresh installed.
No problems to play under XP. But with win 7 it lags every second. And I mean constant once every second.
Both OS have the same software and hardware installed so there's no way that something should be wrong with it... but it looks like there is :/

Sorry, but I can't. I live in Europe and SE never released FFXI on PS2 here. They didn't wanna change it from NTSC to PAL. Nor do I wanna import a NTSC TV plus the whole FFXI Game XD
And XBox is no option for me ;3 I'm fine with my dualboot.. but it's a lame solution to always chance OS just to play..

Anyway, SE finally answered my Mails and they seem to take a closer look into this now... at least I hope so...

A quick update..

SE wanted to send me all the pol-viewer- ffxi- and dxdiag-settings. But this was like a week ago and since then no word about what's going on :(

Well, I'll see...
