Uninstalling

Postby Ali75 on Sat Jun 06, 2009 10:44 am

Ok, so last week I had an error 2071 when I tried to play FFXI (posted in General Discussion forum). It wouldn't let me get past the Playonline viewer. It somehow righted itself and I could then play. Well, this morning, it happened again, so I went into the game disc and clicked on the uninstall button and it comes up with another error, "1607: Unable to install Installshield Scripting Runtime". So I can't even get rid of it to put it back on.

I don't understand why this is all of a sudden happening, I've not done anything different with my laptop, and never, ever had this problem before. Does anyone know how to get this off my computer so I can re-install everything?

I should probably mention that I'm on Windows XP. I see the Playonline files in my registry key / software list, should I remove this whole folder from the list? I don't know if that would do more harm than good. I'm somewhat PC savvy but don't want to go messing with things I have no clue about.

uninstall from add/remove programs, not from the disc.

I tried that too. The unistall wizard runs for the first part, but then does nothing. :(

Well, I'm not sure what's going on with this problem, but I tried to log in again this morning, and was able to. #-o So I took the opportunity to try uninstalling again, and lo and behold, it worked. I re-installed everything, including Playonline, as it seemed to be that causing the problem, and after the 2 hour version update finished installing, I can now log into the game once more. We'll see if it happens again or not. I hadn't done anything besides what I tried above, so I wish I knew what had caused it in the first place so I could advise others who might experience this problem.

Yup, just as I feared, the error happened again this evening. Not sure what the heck's going on but I'm waiting on POL chat for a rep, see if they can shed some light. No doubt my laptop will be blamed, but it's worth a shot. :(

I'd recommend a very good, and free, uninstaller program called "Revo Uninstaller". I have been using it for many months now with great success.

There also appears to be a deeper problem with your computer than one may realize.

Are there any errors in the "Event Viewer"?
