Hacked Accounts Warning

Postby Attila on Wed Dec 12, 2007 3:35 pm

I just came to make sure everyone here had heard about this, here is a copy of the post I made on the Caitsith Alla board about it.

If you've been living under a rock somewhere, you may have missed this, but stop using somepage, ffxi-atlas, and ffxiah for now! Something has been injected into somepage that is using a realplayer exploit, and ffxiah may have some compromised RMT ads.

This gives some details, as well as this thread here. Firefox is currently a safer way to browse some of these sites, namely b/c it doesn't make use of ActiveX. Anyway, read the thread and beware!

Be safe guys, we've already lost a few people on Caitsith.

And how are RMT ads compromised? Did you use them for RMT and get baned? Doesn't sound like a bug sounds like you got caught.

I have noticed FFXIAH acting a little weird lately. I have been getting the message that the site wants to install an Active x drive. Never got that message before a couple of weeks ago.

There is another post regarding this. It does ask to install something. Someone I know had this pop up when they used FFXIAH.com and had to do a scan on their computer after. Apparently it is said to install a keylogger. I forget exactly what post under this section explains it, but I know there is one. I just saw it earlier. Somepage, Alla, FFXIAH, Killingifrit I think were the ones listed to have this issue currently and yes, it is said Firefox is the safer way to view these sites currently.

Edit: Thread is Keyloggers on FFXIAH

Are you thick? There are/were advertisements on these sites that can affect your computer just by SEEING them, you don't even have to click them. They didnt get caught doing anything.

Thick? Maybe. I don't know sorry i guess. Just thought if ad was compromised you'd have to click it or something. Sorry.

It isn't your fault. A lot of people don't know how dangerous ActiveX can be. There is a reason you get that little pop-up message and it isn't just "Windows sucks".

If you have visited any of these sites recently you should run your Anti-Virus(AVG is free) and Anti-spyware(AdAware, Spybot Search and Destroy, etc).

Hopefully people will be more careful after this but probably not.

This is not the first time this has happened.

Around the release of CoP the same thing happened on allakhazam.

You'll find that people have very short memories, and while everyone is in paranoid mode right now, in a couple weeks the virus scanners will be turned off because it slows down the computer.

Then get ready for round 2.

I just run my virus scanners before I go to sleep, or when I get up in the morning boot up my machine, take a shower, get some food, come back and they are done. ^_^

lol Planning a virus scan for me is like planning a vacation. With so many files and drives I usually need to take a break from that PC to scan it.

Lol

This is the whole reason why I dont touch Allakhazam...Other than the fact that 90% of the community are elitists. I hate those RMT ads.

Now, if you guys will excuse me while my xbox dies again, Ima go play WoW #-o

Allakazam has no connection to RMT, and any RMT ads that pop up are nuked the second an admin is notified.
