Update - Nothing for Bard??

Postby Amergen on Tue Mar 11, 2008 10:24 pm

I think the subject line says it all.

(If SE needs some suggestions, I'm sure we'd all be willing to throw in our two cents, yeah?)

BRD really hasn't gotten much of anything since TOAU was release. I think Iron Ram Horn, Nereid ring, and Balrahn's ring are about it in the last year or so. We haven't gotten any beneficial job changes since...um, well, since NA release really. They nerfed the enmity on Mazurka a couple years ago, but otherwise they've pretty much left us alone.

I was just thinking it would be nice to have a few extra capabilities, maybe a few more single-person songs, maybe better weapon skills, at least in our main weapons, perhaps an ability to solo through a few of the more awkward levels. I've duo'd through a few levels but it requires a real high-level damage dealer who is a very good friend to do it. I'm not really complaining, our limitations make the job all the more challenging.

They did do us a huge favour in nerfing the npcs down in campaign a bit, and giving them the ability to keep hate. Tired of dying when I'm just trying to assist the npcs and there aren't a lot of other folk playing in the same area I'm in. Nothing like running through twenty or so npcs with a quadav hot on my tail and no one steps up to take the blows. So, thank SE for that.

What I'd really like is, literally, different music for different categories of songs. They would be more recognizable to party members, in time.

Square said they were thinking of giving bard the ability to make some of their spells single target. What I have to say to that is that they'd better also chop down the casting time because that's just not happening in merit parties.

That's the change I was really hoping to see...that and maybe a song that did something for TP, kind of like Samurai's roll for COR. But single-target spells could be useful in meripos too...when you have an idiot RDM that insists on standing in melee range for example. It would make it easier to land ballad just on him. Plus, in NM fights, you could buff all the melees, then land mambo just on the NIN, or land ballad just on the PLD, etc. Minne might even be useful to put on the tanks in some situations. There's more to end-game than just meriting. As long as we had the choice (like maybe a job ability with a 1 minute recast to make any song single-target) then it would be amazingly useful. Nothing says that you would HAVE to single-target the songs, so you could keep on meriting the way you always have.

Did war need a buff? Hell did sam need to pump out even more dmg?
no
But its just something new to keep you playing.
They said they were going to give brd an ability that will make AoE spells single target. I was wondering where that went with the update, oh well maybe they were busy not putting in new missions for WoTG.

I want something new for brd to be able to screw around with.

What about the new event dagger? Anyone going to try for it?

I'm sure going to try for it, as soon as somebody figures out how to get it. So far all we have is the dancing dagger from Nyzul isle (which is a decent, but not spectacular, weapon) depending what the upgrade does...I may go for it, at least to use while soloing. I doubt it will be anything to make me give up Apollo's/Terra's/chanter's staff combo in parties though. I can't see it having anything that adds up to magic acc +15% or more.

How bout SE gives us A rating in singing, wind and string? Hell a B rating would be nice.

I still don't know why brd are C in something only they can do......

The reason for the lower rank in our skills is because both singing and instrument skills are both factors in the formulas. If we had A ranks in them it would give us the equivalent of A+++ Enfeebling skill. That would be game breaking at all lvls.

What I would ask for is to make Lullaby more potent, all other jobs with the ability to sleep a mob can do it at least 2x better than us.

I would also like to see a single hit damage dealing song, have it hit no harder than around a T2-T3 nuke at it's most potent.

Also a Stun would be nice.

I would just like to have more to do during endgame than sing a few songs then wait wait for stuff to wear off. Heck, I often recast songs long before they wear off just for something to do. (Note: do not wait for songs to wear to recast, better to keep them up full time :P)

I think the reason for that is that we get 2 sleep songs extremely early.

Bard
Foe Lullaby(16) and Horde Lullaby(27)

vs. Black Mage

Sleep (20) and Sleepga (31)
Sleep 2 (41) and Sleepga 2 (56)

vs. Red Mage

Sleep (25) and no Area Sleep Spell
Sleep 2 (46)

vs. Scholar

Sleep (30) and no Area Sleep Spell
Sleep 2 (65)

vs. Blue Mage (I may have forgotten a sleep spell or 2)

No single sleep spell and Sheep Song (16)
Yawn (64)

vs. Dark Knight

Sleep (30) and No area sleep spell
Sleep 2 (56)

Short of blue mage having the first area target sleep spell, bards have the first single target sleep spell/song. They also are the first job to have 2 of them.
